It seems like the last 4 weeks flew by! Morning sickness is well, such a lie. Some days I feel yuck in the morning, some days its in the afternoon, some days its right before bed. The other day it was ALL day. I just try to keep something in my stomach and it seems to help a bit. Ryan is too funny. The other night, after I'd been sick all day and was puking before bed, we had a funny conversation:
Ryan: "I think you need to eat a better foods." (ok, he did not mean it like- you eat crap and are going to get fat etc).
Nic "what do you mean?"
Ryan: "Well, like a granola bar during the day or some fruit or something. Scrambled eggs and toast aren't going to give you enough nutrients. The baby is taking all your nutrients and I think thats why you're getting so sick."
HAHA. Ok, so I'm not sure how correct his statement is, but I thought it was sweet that he seemed so concerened about "my nutrients" LOL. So we went to the grocery store and bought some gosh darn granola bars. Oh my. Then I went on to eat a lettuce and toast sandwich for dinner last night. Ha. Contradiction. Seriously, its not even about eating good- I eat whatever my stomach can handle. I DO try to eat nutritious stuff when I feel good- such as carrots and peanutbutter and fruit. But when I'm feeling sick, I just need food in my stomach and usually not much agrees with me.
So, enough rambling about all that... Here's the update on fetal development, taken from Babycenter.com and Pregnancy.org. They contradict a little bit but I'm sure once we are further along the development will be more accurate.
How your baby's growing:
· Your baby is now 5/8 of an inch long, about the size of a kidney bean. She's constantly moving and shifting, although you won't be able to feel these womb wiggles for several weeks yet.
· Her embryonic tail is disappearing, and her eyelids practically cover her eyes.
· Still slightly webbed, her fingers and toes are growing longer.
· Her arms have lengthened, too, and her hands are now flexed at the wrist and meet over her heart.
· Her knee joints have formed, and her feet may be long enough to meet in front of her body. With her trunk straightening out, her head is more erect.
· Breathing tubes extend from her throat to the branches of her developing lungs.
· The nerve cells in her brain are also branching out to connect with one another, forming primitive neural pathways.
* Note: Experts say every baby develops differently — even in the womb. This developmental information is designed to give you a general idea of how your baby is growing.
Week Eight
- Cartilage and bones begin to form - At the end of this week your baby will have already completed 1/5th of the journey 'til his birthday!
- The basic structure of the eye is well underway
- The tongue begins to develop
- Intestines move out of the umbilical cord into the abdomen.
- The fingers and toes have appeared but are webbed and short
- Baby's length (crown to rump) is 0.6 inch (1.6cm) and weight is 0.04 ounce (1gm
Nic, that is so sweet what Ryan said. Hope you get feeling better soon!!
